PRODECA & Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food is organising a Business Mission to India, visiting the cities of New Delhi and Mumbai from 13 to 18 September 2026. The aim is to facilitate access for Catalan agri-food companies to business opportunities in the Indian market.

OBJECTIVE AND FORMAT OF THE MISSION

The Business Mission will be organized as a collective market exploration visit. Its objective is to provide participating companies with a practical understanding of the Indian commercial environment, validate market entry channels and establish an initial network of contacts with local operators.

The program will include:

  • Group meetings with importers and distributors;
  • Visits to organized and traditional retail outlets (kiranas);
  • Visits to Horeca and foodservice channels;
  • Meetings with sector organizations and industry stakeholders.

All activities will be carried out on a shared basis among participating companies. Individual meeting agendas will not be arranged.

MARKET CONTEXT

India is one of the world's fastest-growing agri-food markets, both because of its demographic scale and the evolution of urban consumer habits. The expansion of the middle classes, the modernization of retail, the growth of digital channels, and increasing demand for differentiated products are creating new opportunities for European and Mediterranean agri-food products.

This context is further reinforced by the forthcoming Free Trade Agreement between the European Union and India, which is expected to create a new framework for European companies through the gradual improvement of market access conditions.

The 2026–2027 period is therefore considered particularly strategic for building distribution channels, brand awareness, and commercial relationships before tariff reductions lead to stronger European competition in the Indian market.

New Delhi

New Delhi and its metropolitan area constitute one of the country's main institutional, commercial, and corporate centres. The capital is home to importers, distributors, trade associations, Horeca operators, specialized retailers, and organizations involved in regulation and international trade.

Including New Delhi in the program will enable participants to gain firsthand insight into how the market operates in northern India, assess the potential of Catalan products within import and retail channels, and visit representative outlets from both traditional retail and more specialized formats.

Mumbai

Mumbai is India's leading financial and commercial center and one of the country's most advanced markets for premium consumption, modern retail, imported products and innovative distribution formats. The city brings together key operators in food retail, gourmet food, beverages, Horeca, and specialized distribution channels.

The visit to Mumbai will provide an opportunity to assess the positioning of Catalan agri-food products in a highly sophisticated commercial environment, characterized by affluent urban consumers and a growing range of international products.

Strategic Value of the Mission

The combination of New Delhi and Mumbai enables participants to:

  • Assess the potential of Catalan agri-food products in India's main commercial hubs;
  • Gain first-hand knowledge of organized and traditional retail channels, Horeca, and specialized stores;
  • Establish contacts with qualified operators capable of regional or nationwide distribution;
  • Analyze pricing, formats, packaging, product assortment, and competition.
