The Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food, through Prodeca and with the collaboration of ACCIÓ, organizes theeBUSINESS FRUIT FOCUS INDIA, an event commissioned by the sectorial association AFRUCATED addressed to Catalan companies producing the entity's fruit.

In the context of the current pandemic and due to international mobility restrictions, from Prodeca we propose new commercial promotion strategies through the organization of online business meetings with on-site support and accompaniment at the destination, in order to present the products and the potential of the Catalan fruit sector a importers, distributors and managers of large areas of destination agri-food markets. In this action, Prodeca offers a comprehensive service, offering support in the presentation of the product, selection of buyers according to suitability, and support during and after the meetings, through experts specialized in the target market who facilitate dialogue to optimize the results.

To facilitate these meetings, Prodeca makes its own digital tool available to Catalan companies and importers from India to present their products and hold online meetings.

eBUSINESS FRUIT FOCUS INDIA is an action focused on the fruit producers of Catalonia to put them in contact with potential buyers in India, one of the key markets for the sector for the coming years.

THE INDIA MARKET

India, with a population of more than 1.35 billion, is one of the most populous countries in the world and at the same time one of the economies with the greatest global growth; with a GDP that has been growing above 5% annually for 9 years and which currently holds almost 15% of global growth.

In the next 5 years it will have the largest middle class on the planet and exponential consumption growth thanks to the estimated 1,000 million internet users.

India is the 2nd world market with the most fruit consumption in 2020 with more than 112 million tons, behind China with 113MT. Per capita consumption in 2020 was 83.2kg/person.

Focusing on the growth forecasts for fruit consumption we see that India will be the world's largest growing market in the next 5 years with a projected cumulative growth of 59% and surpassing China, which will grow by 28.3% and become the first world market in fruit consumption from 2023.

This increase is due, in part, to the greater availability of fruit in the market thanks to improved infrastructure, facilitating better storage and transport.

India's fruit imports exceed 1.8 million Tonnes for a value of almost €3,000 M.

Apples with 2.7 million tons consumed are popular in India thanks to the fact that they tend to be available throughout the year and are affordable for the entire population. India is the 2nd market in world consumption of apples. A cumulative growth of 18.4% is estimated for the next 5 years.

Citrus fruits, mainly oranges and mandarins have a consumption of 9.1 million tons and given the very low local production volumes, they favor imports. India is the 2nd market in world citrus consumption. A cumulative growth of 11% is estimated for the next 5 years.

Peaches and nectarines, despite having a rather low consumption of 0.12 million tons, present one of the best cumulative growth forecasts in the next 5 years of 36.7%. India is the 16th market in world consumption of peaches and nectarines.

Pears, compared to the rest of the fruit, have a fairly low consumption of 0.31 million tons but have one of the best cumulative growth forecasts in the next 5 years of 29.3%. India is the 6th market in world consumption of pears.

ORGANIZATION OF B2B MEETINGS

Participating Catalan companies will have one agenda of meetings with importers/distributors of the target market interested in your products.

The meetings will be held in Indian local time, during the second half of April (meeting dates will be fixed between both parties).

Prodeca will make available to companies one own digital platform to be able to hold the meetings. The platform will allow the company to share promotional material online. However, the platform used may vary depending on the buyer's preferences. Prodeca will be informed in advance of the platform used by each buyer. Before the meeting, the appropriate connection tests will be carried out between the Catalan company and the consultant in order to verify correct operation and guarantee good communication between the parties.

The meetings will last approximately 30 minutes.

If the participating company does not show up for the meeting with the buyer, Prodeca does not undertake to get a new meeting date with that buyer. If it is the buyer who has inconveniences, the proposal of a second date is guaranteed to guarantee the meeting.

The language in which the meetings will take place will be English. It is recommended that participating companies provide Prodeca with promotional materials and the product catalog in English.

In the event that the company requires product samples, the transportation of the samples will be at the expense of the participating company.

Each company will have:

  • Market information
  • Visibility of the company's catalog by all participating buyers
  • Agenda of meetings previously selected according to buyers' interest
  • Support during the meeting by the consultant
